FAQ

  • Is this course for me?

This course is for you if you work in a school or college. If you are a parent or primary carer of a young person with communication difficulties you will also find it relevant.

  • Is the course only about young people with high support needs?

We build all our training around the needs and abilities of those with profound and multiple disabilities. This is the principle of "universal design" - by starting by including those with the greatest challenges, we easily adapt for those who are functioning at higher levels. Our practitioner training provides guidance.

  • We already do a lot of storytelling in our school, so I am not sure we need yet another course!

It's great that so much is going on - sensory stories, social stories, digital stories. But these are very different from the kind of tiny stories we all exchange in our everyday interactions. We hardly notice we are doing this - but these are the building blocks of identity and friendship - and research shows that children with learning and communication problems find this very challenging.

  • How long will it take me?

It takes about 30 minutes to go through the slides and watch a short film. You can do this in your own time, pause and come back to it.

  • I've completed the course - do I need anything else?

The course provides you with some basic ideas and you are really welcome to try them out! Sharing small stories is endlessly fascinating and demanding - so we hope you will want to learn more through taking our Practitioner training.
